Anarchy In The UK

Blades and Burgers are striking out to defend our titles in Sheffield. If anyone needs us... just figure out a way to take care of it yourself.
And away we go, for family, friends, food, and fun.
Sounds right brilliant, that!

Now sod off, tossers. Posted by Picasa

Swift? Sure...

Here's the intrepid and adventurous Cap'n Ron at the helm of Future Primitive, Werner and Sutcliffe keeping an eye out for rocks and rollers. It's time to do it all over again, and we all wish Dad the best on the weekend of the 27th for his umpteenth whip around the markers. Intense and perilous start, long, thunderous beats upwind, icy spray for hours on end, not a dry spot to sit or rest, dizzying ocean rollers with 100-ft troughs, noise, hunger, dicomfort, halucination from physical and mental exhaustion, and an exhilerating downwind sprint to the finish. All with a hangover that never quite fades...

Go get 'em and get back to shore safely.

Hey! Why Don't We Go On Ahead And Meet Another One Of The Bros.

The fiend with the frightening forehand is the one and only Cool V. This guy's an A-1 excellent dude with some long history with ol' Burgers. He's the go-to guy for all the good stuff: laughs, lagers, bumps and scrapes, midnight expeditions, afternoon mis-adventures, and if he had never dicovered frisbee, skateboards, and the mountains, we'd have V's handsome visage instead of Steve Nash's all over the place. I still think that V could cross Nash up like the handlebars of a Kuwahara K-Zed-One. While I was (am) all Tony-Hawking all over the place, my giant feet fighting to keep my gangly frame and ridiculous arms on the board, V was Hosoi-ing around like a quick, smooth, edgy, dagger. Athletic... that's all.
He's a great friend, with solid and true values. He's been through some shit. He's strong and wise, sensitive and completely devoid of nonsense. A great husband and Dad. He's surrounded by a heap of inspiring, intriguing, and solid characters, he's the kind of guy we all need a dose of in our lives.
I've been proud to call Cool V my friend for over twenty years and I fully miss him.
Slide The Four, Guy!

Happy Birthday To The Creature

Indestructable, indescribable, irreplaceable... yet pleasantly despicable.
This wonderful and treacherous misfit will outlive us all... and cackle with glee for eternity. He knows something we don't, and let's keep it that way.
Happy... whatever you count yourself to be in our 'Earth Years'... Cory! Posted by Picasa

Fresh

The weather is drizzly and gray, but mild. Kind of like this great day Soph and I had in Kitsalano a little over a year ago.

The Curse Of California

I blame The Beach Boys. Tacky as hell, I know, but... I remember walking up to catch the bus just above the highway to Hillside in grade 7 feeling the pull of sunshine, sand and surf initiated by "Surfers Rule" off of from Surfer Girl. I was ignited! The call had fallen upon willing ears and hungry spirit... Soon my books, locker, clothing, and walls were covered with all things beach. An obsession built, leading quickly to skateboarding, which lead to the harder crimes of snowboarding and surfing. I've never looked back... well, I HAVE looked back, with knowing fondness that I had found the lifestyle with which I could identify... I'd found myself a way to express who I was and how I looked at the world.
THAT is why I, a 33 year-old man, rode a skateboard to work today.

Hey... it's friends! Let's take a look...

Today I'd like to send a special tip of the shades to my buddy Gerr. He's one in a million, a lively spirit, and a kinetic and respectable human being. Did I ever tell you about the time he ate 9 Bounty bars, then a roast beef dinner, then something like 6 more on his way to the movies with Al? How about his boogie-boarding exploits in a force 8 gale in Seaside, Oregon? Or the time he smashed a --- oh, shit, sorry Gerr - wasn't him, probably was some other guy. We've sailed the seas, grated the cheese, dropped the bottle, and opened the throttle, walked the talk, shaken the pop, I miss him a lot, and Gerr can't be topped.
Abarista, Mi Amigo - I hope we'll be seeing you and your terrific family soon. Don't burn yourself.

Score More

Books!
We grabbed some freebies this sunny Sunday. A few houses down they're replacing a bunch of old second-story windows, and the workers saw Soph and I leering at the discarded frames. After a few friendly words... ours. We figure that we'll get productive and convert them all to mirrors / picture frames. Projects...
We'll give them back to the street if it doesn't work out.
THEN, we spied 4 boxes of terrific books left at the curb. And not the usual textbooks and Grisham usually found in such a scenario - some solid stuff. It was like a trip to Balfour (pictured - miss you Mum!) for $0.00. Martin Amis, Simon Winchester... one of the 500 million copies of Life Of Pi floating around the world, and many more. We grabbed about 8 each - stoked.
I cleaned up the backyard a bit, and we barbecued 3 times:
1.) Pacific Halibut (What's up Gerr!)
2.) Chicken Burgers a la Sophia
3.) Marshmallows roasted on yard twigs. Highly recommended... it's not easy to stress about bullshit when you're eating a nicely roasted marshmallow.

Summer continues to bloom, skateboard madness continues to overtake me, my delightful partner continues to thrill me.

And the sun rises yet again.... warm and bright.
It may be apparent, I've been listening to Jack Johnson this morning. I make no apologies. He was just what I needed! Posted by Picasa
